Hey Eric, I thought you played bass for the band! When did you switch to lead guitar?

No no no, he mentioned right here on this board that he had migrated to guitar.

If anyone is interested, The Buzzcocks are playing at House of Blues in Anaheim on Tuesday July 25.

The presale is going on now - only $16.50 (before the ticketbastard fee) and all ages!

:D

After a couple of years of discussing, it appears Hitchcock Media is finally able to issue the rerelease of the Hollywood Squares "Hillside Strangler" 7", along with to-this-point unreleased studio material and even a live show (supposedly their only one). And, if you like vinyl, it's already out on Rave Up Records:

Also, Discourage Records (http://www.discouragerecords.com/) has rereleased the kbd classic "Tammy Wynette" 7" EP by The Maggots with a bonus demo of the title song. This is on vinyl. They were from Joe's scourge, Northern California, but worth checking out.

The Frontier Records website ( http://www.frontierrecords.com ), besides noting that they will release official comps of Middle Class and Eddie & the Subtitles material are coyly implying that both Plugz LP's will be released through them.

Artifix (http://artifixrecords.com) mention that their LP (CD? or is really vinyl) of unreleased Bags stuff is now out. At least their blod does, noting the price at $16, which is more expensive than usual for them. However, it does not seem to be mentioned elsewhere on the site. I'll have to e-mail them to see what's up. I'm looking forward to this....

They also recently released some pre-What? demos by The Controllers. This is the original, pre-Maddog lineup. There are a lot of later recordings on the release, too.

UPDATE: I paid closer to blog entry, and the Bags release is on vinyl. The CD release is later this summer, and will, I assume, be the usual $10.

I didn't care for them in Decline..., but the CD is pretty good. Keep in mind that it's all live stuff (except for one or two of Claude's solo things), so the quality isn't top notch, but it's about the best you'll find for them.

Big news from the Artifix website:

Dangerhouse Recordings found! As the archeaologists of punk, it is our duty to discover previously hidden gems of aural pleasure which we can then foist unto the masses of head bobbing, fist flailing, punkeroos...we struck paydirt (again) and have just gotten hold of some previously unreleased Dangerhouse recordings from 1978 and 1979. We can't say everything that we have so far as we are still trying to clear the rights, etc., but we do have two previously unreleased studio EYES tracks:

"Go Go Bee" and "Research Bee"

Along with their other studio recordings, we hope to release these soon.

PS, there is talk of a possible EYES reunion in the works as a one-off deal. Most of the principles have said yes so we just have to wait and see!

Me: That's big news. I wonder if these are the recordings that Don Bonebrake told me that Charlotte has.

More from Artifix:

Sat. June 23rd,2007
SOCIAL TASK, ENTROPY, FAMOUS TEA and KILLINGCALIFORNIA are playing at Malone's, 604 E. Dyer, Santa Ana, 5 bux, 21+, starts at 8 PM

Wed. June 27th, 2007

THE FREEZE, SOCIAL TASK, LE FACE and POOP are playing at the Blue Cafe, 17208 PCH, Huntington Beach, 7 bux, 21+, starts at 8 PM

GERMS movie update: tickets are now on sale through the L.A. Film Fest site for the three nights that they will be showing the world premiere of What We Do Is Secret (the Germs movie). The first night, many of the stars and old-time punks will be in the audience and there is a rumor that the GERMS will play after the film. Tickets are $11. Artifix Records helped with some sound and acting in this film. The first night showing is set for Saturday, June 23rd @ 10 PM Mann Festival Theater, Hollyweird.

I don't know why this didn't get more press last year, but here goes:

Rhino 39 2-CD retrospective!
Nickel and Dime Records

It's called "self-titled".

Includes: Their Dangerhouse material, unreleased material from 1980 (lead singer Dave'Dacron' Bratton died April 26 of that year, so I don't know if this is with him or the band as a 3-piece before they got the new lead singer), all comp stuff, plus the Triple-X Records LP from 1984ish. Plus a Dacron-era live performance video--the only known one from that time.

I will have to get this! You should, too!

I've never heard of Rhino 39, but I looked them up.......... I am busting my brain here. I have read that Dave Bratton was succeeded by his younger brother Joel Bratton....... I'm not sure at all, but is Joel the guy who later sang for the band Spiffy, in the mid-90s? They only released two singles, and all their songs were written by Tony Lombardo, who also played bass. Ray Cooper played guitar. This would make sense since everybody is from Southern California...... :?:

This might not be the same guy at all.

Wow! There is a Joel Bratton in about 4 different bands over the years. My guess would be "same guy," but I don't know.

The Joel era Rhino 39 isn't that good. The 3-piece era (with Tim and Larry or Mike sharing vocals) is better--see "Hell Comes to Your House" or "American Youth Report" for confirmation. The Dave era was short but amazing. The twinned "Xerox"/"No Compromise" is a great addition to the Dangerhouse canon.

I didn't hear about any of this until today. Rocco, whose later songs were pretty paranoid, finally gave into his psychoses. 55+ years.
