For those of you who get IFC (Independent Film Channel), July is punk month. I predict Decline, pt. 1 will be shown. Let's see if they finally show pt. 3. Sid and Nancy was also shown in the commercials.

The first four days of the month will have Dogtown and the Z-Boys, Sid and Nancy, and The Filth and the Fury. My recorder will be getting a workout in July.

I was able to search their listings through July 24th, but I didn't see any mention of Decline... :(

Yeah, I did the same. :( indeed!

Other offerings are their special Punk: Attitude (by Don Letts, so it should be good), the Green Day Jesus of Suburbia video, and SLC Punk. Plus a couple of movies I'd sort of call punkish: Raising Arizona and Run Lola Run.

From Artifix:

CASTRATION SQUAD REUNION! It's official...the first girls of goth-punk will be playing a reunion show at the Keyclub in Hollywood in September. They will be playing with Diana Cancer and the 45 Grave Robbers, and some others. More info on the show soon. At some point in the future, Artifix will be releasing a CD with old CASTRATION SQUAD material and possibly some new material as well!

My note: this will be without Shannon, who Alice Bag reports as being deceased. I don't know if everyone else is on board. Alice does not mention this on her website that I can see.

Let's all get ready for a date with Jack!

Terry Graham from The Bags & Gun Club was in town recently to record his segments for an upcoming film documentary on the Gun Club.

Anybody heard about this?

Last one from Artifix:

In a recent interview, Lisa from Frontier said that the MIDDLE CLASS CD that is currently out of print will soon be rereleased on Frontier Records.

I can't independently confirm this.

The Frontier Records website (http://www.frontierrecords.com) mentions they plan to release a CD of a live Weirdos performance this year.

They also are planning some secret rerelease of a comp.

Is Dinah Cancer in on this? On a side note, Dinah has now gone from Dinah Cancer and the 45 Grave Robbers to Dinah Caner's 45 Grave. Rikk Agnew is in on this, with some others. None of the originals, though, and apparently, they are OK with this incarnation using the name.

I stumbled across a website (http://www.darkmoonentertainment.com/45GRAVE.html) that says they are Dinah's management. Here is what they say:

45 GRAVE will be playing their first shows in 15 years at the following venues:

Club Rock, Newport Beach CA July 21;
The Crest, Torrance CA July 22;
The Gig, Hollywood CA July 29;

Dinah is also appearing as Dinah Cancer, and revamping Castration Squad with Alice Bags of The Bags for a Deathrock Divas event at The Key Club on September 2 with Eva O, Voodoo Church.

Me: I'm not sure if this is a one-off thing or not.

yeah, i saw that in the LA weekly. i'm not a big fan of trying to squeeze into a record store or wait in line to see a band. although we did go to that henry rollins thing at amoeba, but got there super early. i guess something like 1500 people showed up at amoeba for the femmes, and they had to lock the doors and keep people out.

that's about 1400 too many for me. And I typically hate the public.

Just wondered if Dan made it up for the Nip Drivers last night, and how they were... we were just too tired to wait up, not to mention the drive home. Ended up with a dozen Krispy Kremes and an extra dozen (buy one, get one free) for the babysitter. Wish they could've played earlier.

You made the right choice.

Lisa and I were gettin' real tired, too - as were the guys sitting at the table next to us (the ones Joesph & I were talking to) - their eyes were closed a lot of the time.

I thought all the bands that night were "okay." Toys That Kill were very good - they stood out. Unfortunately, the evening started off an hour behind schedule (didn't they turn their clocks back last week), so the Nip Drivers took to the stage around 1am or something.

Mike's singing sounded fine, but the band behind him sounded very sloppy. In the old days, the band would be wasted, but would still play a real tight set (prolly 'cause they practiced constantly and played all the time). Maybe this new incarnation doesn't do much of either, I don't know. Maybe this was just an off-night.

It seemed the set ended early - the lights came on and the announcer said something like "well everyone, its that time." The Nip Drivers' set seemed entirely too short. I'm still unsure whether it was just a short set, or if they got booted off due to some sort of curfew...

One of those rare evenings where I got back home thinking, "I should have just stayed at home." But I shouldn't feel that way - it was nice just going out and hanging out with Lisa, Nancy and Joseph.

I wanna send Lisa a few Nip Drivers songs, 'cause I don't think that was a good representation last night. I really feel the Nip Drivers are the twin brother of the Keith-Morris-era Black Flag. Last night was just a bad show.

I'm kind of surprised, because when we saw them recently at the "Punk Rock Barbeque" they were great. It was a daytime show. The band was tight, Weber just ruled the crowd with his energy. Also we'd seen Mike do a couple of songs a while back with the band, Mark Spitz Freestyle. We didn't know exactly who he was at that time, but he was so impressive we soon found out. I never saw the old Nip Drivers, so can't compare the sound, but sorry to hear you were disappointed.

Those Krispy Kremes are great, but evil.

Heard this show was great last time they did it.

Anyone up for it? :)

(btw Joe, Adam made a special request that you and Michael Quercio try and make this gig. It would make him very happy)
