well if you want to count my band playing a super trendy club in LA worth flying out for then by all means. other than that not too much else that is on a fly out here type of importance.

my day today: a nice kick back day. slept in til about 11, putted around the house, watched some simpsons on dvd, went to pick up my paycheck at the music school and then went to practice by myself at our rehearsal room. probably going to barnes and noble for some book browsing.

when is this show?

I'm having a good day, getting lots done. the girl I liked stopped calling, because I liked her. which is dumb, so I'm kind of getting over it now. there are lots of girls though. whatever.

The show i'm playing is coming up in about 2 weeks. Sunday December 21st at Spaceland in the Silverlake part of LA.

http://www.clubspaceland.com/?m=20081221&cat=2

thats the listing from the clubs website. if you happen to be in town thatd be awesome otherwise i wouldn't worry about it.

we've picked out the songs we want to do for our set and are just hammering our the details of our brand new material.

yeah, she texted me today, after not hearing from her for about a week and said "why would someone like you be pursuing someone like me? I've been curious about that since I met you."

weirdo. I told her I just wanted her kidneys to sell on the black market and asked if that was her way of asking for a compliment.

the last few days have been a massive blur.

my birthday was friday, i turned 26. spent part of it at work, the rest at a show with friends from the southbay. at the show a friend proposed to his girlfriend of the past four years at the end of their set onstage. then later on i met up with some of the folks in my band for some bday revelry.

yesterday i worked then went to an invite only garden party in LA where a band i know invited me to go because they were doing a special stripped down set that was going to be filmed. afterward went out with some of my band and we generally hung out and put some posters up for the gig we are doing a week from today.

Happy belated birthday Rufo!

girl turned out to be super sketchy. has a boyfriend, sleeps around, etc. we're supposed to go to a show Saturday. I'm not even going to call her. fuck it. and whenever I do hear from her, I'm just going to say "sorry, I was totally wrong about you. good luck with the boyfriend"

Jason: thanks and that sounds lame about the girl. hate when that happens.

yesterday was a good busy day.

worked at the club in the first part of the day before i went to pedro to teach. taught til 7 then i went to koos to catch a quick nap in our rehearsal room before i headed over to long beach to run the show i set up at Que Sera. Daniel Ahearn, Correatown and Exitmusic were the groups that i had play. it was quite a good lineup that even brought up one of the leading LA music bloggers to hang and take pictures of the evenings show. i might even play drums for daniel now, we scheduled a musical get together for january 5th i believe. hes a great songwriter.

today will be filled with lounging around, maybe getting lunch with a ladyfriend, work at 4 and then band practice afterwards at 1030.

today was ok. I'm really sick, but I watched a couple of films with a friend, went to clinic for testing, and just made tea that I'm going to drink out of my tea cups that I bought in Ferney Voltaire

worked yesterday from the afternoon til mid evening. went to band practice afterwards. we ran the new material that willbe in our spaceland set tonight. went to a party in long beach for a friend who is moving to toronto. ran into a girl i have not seen in several months. it was great seeing her. shes amazingly awesome but....

tonight is spaceland. im a bit nervous. our name is headlining on the marquee. thats weird to think about. we've earned this show and done a lot this year but i dont feel we're completely deserving of this....yet.

i dunno.

im kinda wound up and this is the night that has had me stressing out for the last run of weeks.

barring any sort of onstage explosion or fire i think itll be ok.

its just that anxiety of wanting it to be great. i don't want to settle for being just another dumb band from LA.

i just want to people to hear us.

can you tell im a little tense?

Being anxious can be a good thing, as long as you don't try to do anything to get rid of it (drinking too much before the show... ).
Let that anxiety work for you... it can result in a fantastic upbeat show.

I think you'll do just fine tonight... wish I could be there.

And if anyone deserves to headline at Spaceland, you earned this right a long time ago.

Congratulations on the gig, Rufo! Can't wait to hear how it all went!

thanks for the vote of confidence mike.

there will be no drinking or inbibing of smoke until after the last song in our set is done. afterwards i predict a long and hopefully wonderful night amongst friends and musical peers.

we meet up for a final run of our set at 5 pm. then loading up and generally hanging out.

its going to be a long night ( in both senses of the word )

That's very smart! Reminds me of all those idiots that go around saying, "Oh, I drive better when I'm drunk." Its simply not true. People may feel more confident or relaxed, but they can really fuck-up the set!

Yes, hold off the partying until after the gig! Very good advice! :D

wow. reading the first few pages of this thread really brings back some memories of being a fucking moron and a half.

anyway, good day today. good days all around for the past couple of weeks, except for a friend of mine being in the hospital.

how is everyone else doing?

sitting in the aftermath of a weekend filled with gigs. getting dicked around at our show on saturday. Sunday one of the bands had to drop off the bill last minute because of a blow out with their now former singer.

but our sets were great so thats something.
