AUDIO-ANIMATRONIC
CAST SHEET
35 figures: 4 full animation - 31 limited
animation
FULL ANIMATION:
POSEIDON (in
Aigia, page 27): Poseidon sits on his throne, lecturing the guests
as they sail around his palace. Full range of expressions on
face, movement of head, arms and hands.
NESSIE (the
Loch Ness Monster, page 28): A figure around the magnitude of
Universal's "King Kong" or TDL's Dragon beneath the
Castle. Only her long, wide neck and horse-shaped head appear
out from beneath the water. She growls to the skies, then at
the guests, snapping at them in the process. Movement to eyes,
flaring of nostrils, opening & closing of mouth, movement
of head side to side and up & down, and movement of neck
to snap at guests. The neck is big enough to give realism to
the scene where she "swallows the boats" (page 29).
CASTAWAY (in
Nessie's Stomach, page 30): He is an old man, yet stands up straight
on his raft, with a half-eaten, raw fish in his hand. He is talking
to the guests who have just joined him. Full expressions of face
and movement of head, arms and torso.
POSEIDON (in
Judgement Hall, page 31): The ancient Greek god stands on a cliff,
giving an impassioned speech to the Elderly Jurors. Movement
in eyes, mouth, head, arms, hands and torso.
LIMITED ANIMATION:
DUMMY GUESTS
(GROUP A in Experiment Site, page 21, GROUP B in Conservatory,
page 32): The boats are each filled with 22 dummies, although
only 14 of them (7 per boat) will be animated. Animation is limited
and divided to only a couple of movements per figure (i.e.: one
figure will have movement in arms and head, allowing it to take
a flash picture and look around while another figure will have
movement in mouth and head, allowing it to shout for help and
look around).
DOLPHINS (3
together, in Experiment Site, page 22): The three dolphins stick
their heads out from the water, open their mouths to give distressing
cries, move their eyes a little, and shake their heads up and
down .
ELDERLY JURORS
(12 together, in Judgement Hall, page 31): only their head and
shoulders appear from inside the jury box. Static frowning expressions
of their faces. Movement is limited. A few nod their heads (in
accordance to Poseidon's speech), a few others glance from side
to side, while a couple occasionally appear to whisper to the
person next to them. The others are still.
MONSTER PLANT A
(in conservatory, page 32): Movement limited to opening &
closing of mouth," and tilt of "head." It's "arms"
are connected to the "dummy boat prop" (a fake boat-full
of "guests" about to be devoured by the plant). The
Dummy Boat is moved by hydraulics, so the plants rubbery "arms"
will seems to be moving on their own.
MONSTER PLANT B
(in conservatory, page 32): Same as above, but added animation
to long, squid-like "arms" which reach out to guests.
SYNOPSIS
"Poseidon/Chase" is a water-flume
attraction, like "It's a Small World" and "Pirates
of the Caribbean," in which the guests will be sucked down
a whirlpool, encounter ancient Greek gods and come face to face
with the Loch Ness Monster, all while becoming aware of the oceans'
fragile ecosystem.
"Poseidon/Chase" is the name of
a fictional experimental research group which is under fire from
the press due to the negative results their high-powered sonar
tests are having on sea life. To help save their public image,
and to ensure their government funding is not cut-off, facts
which the guests will learn in the queue area, Poseidon/Chase
is allowing the guests access to their facilities in order to
see an actual testing of their high-powered sonar. The guests
board a series of 22-passenger boats which take them out to sea
to view the sonar test. Even before the test begins, the guests
are aware that high-powered sonar is silly and unnecessary. As
the test starts the guests can see that it is also very harmful
to marine life, as demonstrated by the churning of the ocean's
surface and the appearance of a group of dolphins making distressing
cries. With a mighty thunderclap, the guests are confronted by
the mighty voice of Poseidon, the ancient god of the Seas, who
creates a giant whirlpool which sucks the guests' boats down
to his underwater palace where they are to be sentenced for their
crimes against the ocean's inhabitants (namely causing a "thundering
death" to rain down on his subjects). Escaping Poseidon's
palace, the guests experience a thrilling encounter with the
Loch Ness Monster, who, under orders from Poseidon, swallows
them and takes them to the great sea court. Along the way, the
guests meet Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, who is very sympathetic
to their plight and vows to help them in whatever small way he
can. Once inside the sea court's forbidding grotto, the guests
are sentenced and are moments away from their fate when the recognizable
sound of the advanced sonar starts. The sonar waves affect the
grotto like an earthquake, allowing the guests to escape by sailing
through a crumbling wall. As the guests ascend to the surfacer
the voice of Nereus pleads for them to better understand the
effect they have on the oceans' ecosystem. Once at the surface,
the guests are rescued by a Poseidon/Chase vessel which issues
an apology to them over a very impersonal P.A. system.
With a story-line suggested from recent news
events (the
Big Sur/global warming sound tests), "Poseidon/Chase"
will dazzle guests with its special effects (such as travelling
through a whirlpool and being swallowed by the Loch Ness Monster)
while bringing attention to our effect on the oceans' ecosystem.
ATTRACTION
EXTERIOR
The facade of "Poseidon/Chase,, is very
plain, resembling a low-profile experimental research facility.
The Poseidon/Chase logo is displayed above the entrance along
with: "Experimental Research Division" written underneath
in smaller, regular type. The double meaning of the title "Poseidon/Chase"
(founded in the late 1800s by Dr. Oskar Poseidon and Henry Chase
- learned by the guests in tie pre-show video and by the pictures
and exhibits displayed in the queue) is augmented by their logo,
which features Poseidon's trident as the "e" in "Poseidon."
PRE-SHOW
/ QUEUE
The Queue snakes through the Poseidon/Chase
lobby, a large, white room with some giant logos and mottos painted
on the -walls. There are also some large windows which look out
over the "ocean." Guests make their way past photos,
plaques, products and many interactive displays showcasing the
company's ludicrously inane and costly (to the environment and
government alike) achievements. The interactive displays will
be numerous throughout the queue and designed to be utilized
by many people at the same time, bringing people in the queue
together and helping to alleviate any potential boredom while
waiting in line. On overhead monitors runs an ongoing and "unintentionally"
funny "Info-mercial"-type program, "The Poseidon/Chase
Ecology Hour," which welcomes the guests to the facilities
and clues them in on what a shortsighted company Poseidon/Chase
really is and how potentially dangerous their latest experiments
could be. The following pages contain an excerpt of "The
Poseidon/Chase Ecology Hour." The actual program may vary
in length so the guests watching from the queue area do not view
the program twice.
